Why I Won’t Vote For Loren Legarda

I used to admire Ms Loren Legarda when she was in broadcast media, then with Kabayan Noli de Castro. I admired her work, her accomplishments academic-wise and concern for the environment, among other else. But things suddenly changed when she decided to enter politics.

She was one of those who voted for the impeachment of Ex-President Joseph Estrada. When it was time for the controversial second envelope to be voted on, and NO won, she was one of those who was saddened, and CRIED.

When Fernando Poe Jr ran as president on 2004, she was the running mate as vice president. FPJ and Erap are known by the entire country as best of friends. I guess even Erap wasn’t happy too with this partnership as it seemed Loren swallowed her principle and pride just to find a person who can fuel her ambition of a higher position. She lost to her competitor Noli de Castro whom she accused of cheating his victory. I can’t exactly recall if she filed for a recount but I remember there was some financial matters involved.

On 2007, she ran again as a senator and won. I was told by a source that during this term, she was one of those who worked for the ouster of then Senate President Manny Villar, which Senator Enrile took over.

But on 2010, she again ran as vice president for Manny Villar. Erap ran too as president last 2010 but then due to her participation for the impeachment why would he choose her to be his running mate? If it was true that Loren was one of those who maneuvered for the ouster of Manny Villar, I cant understand how she can stomach running with him. Principle compromised again for the sake of machinery that will boost her candidacy? Or political whoring? Of course, with a very stiff electoral contest back then, camps of Manny Villar and PNoy were exchanging gaffes and indiscretions against each other.

Now that its 2013, midterms election for the senate seat, she formed part of the Team PNoy. While she ran independently, she indeed was a guest candidate for both ruling parties Team PNoy and UNA. Where’s that principle again? Fine that she is running as independent, but she could have declined to accept being a guest candidate for both parties eh?

She is leading in the surveys, and she may win. Who am I to affect her chances in the senatorial slate but personally I love to choose a person with strong convictions and not someone who is a political butterfly. Now, would you blame me if my vote for her would instead be cast to the…
